MUSIQUE CUBAINE - GROUPES CUBAINS
|
* This all-star group is the dream of bandleader and arranger Juan De Marcos González, the unsung hero, arranger and co-founder of the 'Buena Vista Social Club' and former leader of Cuba¹s premier son band SIERRA MAESTRA.The Afro-Cuban All Stars is a gathering of some of Cuba¹s finest young musicians - including Amadito Valdés on timbales and David Alfaro on piano - with star singers from the golden age of the 1950s and ¹60s and the present. These include, from the older generation, Caridad Hierrezuelo and Felix Baloy and from the younger, Pedro Calvo (Los Van Van and Felix Valdés Baloy jnr). * Juan De Marcos¹ Afro-Cuban All Stars is an ever-changing project and 2001 sees the band evolve its personnel with the horn section now expanded to seven plus flute and performing a renewed set. The music continues with its tribute to the classic sound and arrangements of the past but blended with more recent elements from the continuing development of the Cuban music story. * The line-up will total 19 players comprising Bass and Piano, the rhythm section of Timbales, Bongo and Congas, and Brass section of 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, sax and flute. Plus 5 lead singers and Tres player. * This line-up will reinforce the Afro-Cuban All Stars as the hottest Latin act in the world. 17 on stage.
