Le label Fania Records, créée en 1964 par Jerry Masucci et le flûtiste Johnny Pacheco est à l'origine de cette formation constituée par un groupement des meilleurs artistes de la Fania Records, On y retrouve les chanteurs Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe et Ruben Blades, le tromboniste Willie Colon, Johnny Pacheco et Pete Rodriguez, et le percussionniste Ray Barretto, auxquels s'ajoutent des invités prestigieux, le chanteur Joe Bataan et le pianiste/arrangeur Bob James.
